Only three men have been on the cover of “Vogue” since it started in 1892:  Richard Gere in 1992 . . . George Clooney in 2000 . . . and LeBron James in 2008.

Denny’s isn’t named after anyone.  It started as a donut shop called Danny’s Donuts in Lakewood, California . . . and the founders picked “Danny” because it started with a “D,” like donuts. They eventually changed the name to Denny’s because people were confusing it with another chain called Coffee Dan’s . . . and that name stuck.

Steve Jobs’ widow owns more Disney stock than anyone in the world.  Laurene Powell Jobs owns about 131 million shares, which is 7.5% of the company.  Steve got the stock when Disney bought Pixar from him in 2006.

The first ever NBA game was held in Canada.  On November 1st, 1946, the New York Knickerbockers played an old team called the Toronto Huskies in Toronto.

Joseph Stalin’s real last name was Dzhugashvili.  (Zhoo-gush-vee-lee.)  He changed it to “Stalin” as he was rising to power . . . it means “man of steel.”

The government is once again discouraging passengers from flying with fruitcakes. They say the holiday cakes are being banned on most commercial flights not because of their taste, but because they are thick and could hide a weapon. Officials also claim some X-ray machines have problems seeing through fruitcakes.

 Pest control companies expect this holiday season to be their busiest ever because of the bed bug problem that’s plaguing college campuses and major cities. They say homes will become infested over Christmas because of returning college students. Schools in the East, Southeast and Midwest are the most bug-infested.

A company called S****Express allows you to send horse manure and other animal waste anonymously for Christmas. The company delivers to those, who are disliked. S***Express only accepts Bitcoin payments making it nearly impossible to trace the sender. Deliveries cost $15 and can be gift wrapped.

Research from the Center for Advanced Public Safety reveals that Christmas week is the worst week of the year for car crashes. Dr. Allen Parrish says: “The more you can avoid that the more likely you are to avoid being in a crash. It’s really that simple. The hours between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. are the riskiest part of the riskiest week for accidents.”

 Helen Keller wasn’t born blind or deaf.  She lost her sight and hearing to a disease when she was two.  It was diagnosed as “brain fever” . . . but it was most likely scarlet fever or meningitis.

7-Eleven started in Dallas in 1927 as a store that only sold ice.  Eventually it expanded to sell milk, bread, and eggs . . . and then evolved into the first convenience store.

President Obama isn’t the first president accused of being born in another country.  Chester A. Arthur was always accused of being born in Canada, but it was never proven.

George Lucas didn’t win any Oscars for “Star Wars” . . . but his ex-wife did.  Marcia Lucas won the Oscar for Best Film Editing for “Star Wars” in 1978.  She and George got divorced in 1983.

U.S. airport officials say those preparing to travel with wrapped gifts should be prepared to unwrap them if an X-ray machine cannot properly see through them. Baggage screeners have been given the ‘green light’ to tear apart any and all gifts they deem necessary.

The Miller Park Zoo, near Bloomington, Illinois, is selling Xmas ornaments made from animal dung. Zoo marketing director Susie Ohley says the dung is clear-coated, painted and then rolled in glitter. “Each one is unique � they are each a work of art.” Each $8.50 ornament comes with a label of authenticity.

George Lucas gave Mel Brooks permission to parody “Star Wars” with “Spaceballs”, he just had one rule:  No merchandising.  Brooks agreed, and Lucas’s Industrial Light and Magic did the special effects for the movie.

Ten of the first 12 presidents owned slaves.  The only ones who didn’t were John Adams and his son, John Quincy Adams.

  

“The 12 Days of Christmas” is about the 12 days AFTER Christmas, not before.  They end on January 6th, which is a holiday called the Feast of the Epiphany.

More than half of the people who were billionaires 20 years ago aren’t anymore.  There were 289 billionaires in 1995 . . . only 126 of them still have at least $1 billion.

The Heisman Trophy is named after a football coach from the early 1900s named John Heisman.  His biggest contribution to the game was having the center snap the ball to the quarterback.  Before that, the center used to just put it on the ground.

When Oregon became a state in 1859, its constitution banned black people from living or working in the state.  And they didn’t change the law until 1926.
